Van and car breakers yards are becoming more and more popular in the UK and there are many reasons for this. The recession certainly has made a dent in most people’s wallets and the economy in general has taken a turn for the worst. This has made car breakers yards more appealing; not only are they a viable option to sell your used car or van and make money, but they are now becoming a popular option from which to buy quality used parts at a much lower price than can be sourced new.
You may think that you’d never be able to find the part you need, that there aren’t enough breakers yards in the country or that they will not be able to provide the knowledge and expertise that you would require in order to make a trusted purchase. You may be surprised to hear that you’d be wrong on those points! There are now many credible breakers yards across the country, with the larger companies stocking a very wide and varied stock to suits most needs. Whether it’s a run-of-the-mill part for a standard make and model or a more bespoke item, it’s worth giving your local breakers yard a try, or search online; most yards have good, informative websites and are able to ship nationwide and further a field too.
What makes these companies stand out from others is often the people that run them. Most often they have years of experience, expertise and know-how, meaning there isn’t a lot they don’t know when it comes to the inside, or indeed outside of a car or van. They are often the ones stripping down vehicles and know what makes them tick… quite literally! Often a part may be valid for a number of different makes or models and your breakers yard will be able to advise on this. They should be able to assist you with your query efficiently, even if you are unsure of what you are looking for, and would be able to provide you with the knowledge you need, advising you on whether they have stock.
In general, if the yard you’ve tried does not stock the part you need, they will often ensure that they can source it for you, with a network of support and suppliers, they will most probably know where they could find what you are looking for in a timely manner.
When replacing a part, it is ideal if you can physically bring the required item to the scrap yard so that they can easily search for it without having to do the research first. This is not always practical in particular with larger items, however this shouldn’t impact your ability to find what you are looking for, it just may take a little longer!
There is also another reason to by from a breakers yard. Most people go to these places for practical reasons, to find, replace or sell parts from cars or vans. Some people however go for more artist reasons, where car parts become art and art becomes car parts! We’ve all watched scrap heap challenge, right?! Some of the more talented individuals among us may turn car parts into furniture or artist masterpieces for example. Whatever takes your fancy!
